But there’s one striking difference between both women’s approaches: Rowling uses a pseudonym. In fact, Rowling’s latest project outside the Potter-verse is also a thriller series. Like Rowling, who is trying to establish her own literary legacy outside of the Harry Potter world-or, at least, was trying to do that at some point-it seems Meyer really wants to keep writing-specifically, work that spans beyond the franchise that made her famous with tweens. Whatever her odds are at getting another movie, this new project presents an interesting parallel between Meyer and another mega-famous author, J.K. And then there’s the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, another cinematic cash cow that was originally written as Twilight fan fiction. The Host might have faltered at the box office, but not drastically enough to preclude another Meyer joint-especially considering how lucrative its predecessor was. It’s obviously very early to speculate, but all signs already point to “probably.” Put together, the Twilight movies grossed over $3 billion worldwide during their lifetimes in theaters.
